Effective Varroa Mite control is key to successful beekeeping. Creating an artificial brood break is an excellent way to achieve this; especially when combined with oxalic acid treatment. At EZPZ, we cage queens for 2 weeks then release. One week later, after her old brood has emerged and before the new brood is capped, we use a full dose of oxalic acid vapor.

The cage is designed to mount on the top bar of a Langstroth frame. It can be by itself or allow bees to draw comb all around it. The cage will sequester the queen but allows the workers to enter and exit to feed her and spread her pheromones. For best results, the caged queen should be placed in the center of the nest. Just remove the plug and return the frame to the hive and she'll walk out on her own. For periodic maintenance, the back may be carefully slid open.
