The EZPZ Apitherapy Cage (Beta) is designed to go on the outside of any wooden hive to collect worker bees for apitherapy purposes (Bee Venom Therapy, or BVT). It slides onto the mounting bracket which mounts over a 1in hole you drill into the hive. Slide it into place and wait for some workers to enter. A drop of honey or a tiny swipe with lemon grass oil may be useful to entice them into the box. You can also try scratching on the surface like a raccoon to alert the guard bees and get them to come out. Slide the hatch closed and replace the cover by sliding it while pushing the box off the bracket as shown. If used properly, no workers should escape during this process.
Once collected, slide the hatch open just enough to grab one bee at a time from the cage. Some practitioners will use CO2 gas to anesthetize the bees for easier handling. It's said that 3 minutes in a refrigerator will also work. Individual bees can then be loaded onto reverse tweezers for placement on the sting site.
NOTE: CO2 dispenser and tweezers are not included.
This product is now made in translucent PETG for greater visibility. The bracket has queen excluder size openings. Some photos show the old version.
Please note that this is a beta version. Feedback is welcome.
